Chazy is a region in the south of Wielopolska which takes in several villages around Rawicz in the Orla River basin, viz. Łąkta, Stwolno, Stworowo, Ugoda, Wydawy, Zawady and Zielona Wieś. The present-day inhabitants are the descendents of Silesian settlers who came here at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. They stand out by virtue of the “mazuration” of their language. The name “Hazak” comes from the name of the costume worn by the first settlers. A “hazuka” or “hazuki” was a long outer garment.
