The procession held after mass is the most important and enthralling (because it is so spectacular) moment of this holiday. The priest leads the congregation around four altars in various locations in the village after leaving the church. He stops before each one to read from the gospels and bless those present. The road he takes is paved with a bed of flower petals laid down earlier by the faithful while young girls dressed in white strew the way with more as he walks along. The flower beds laid out along the route in Spycimierz are the most stunning and are unparalleled in Poland.
The branches decorating the altars are plucked after the procession. People put these in their gardens (especially their cabbage patches) to ward off insects.
The herb garlands are blessed and put away until next year on the eighth and final day of the church celebrations. These blessed plants are credited with phenomenal magical healing powers
