The county seat lies on the Prosna, approx. 120 km south-east of Poznań. It is a major tourism centre.
The town hall was built in 1360. It was one of the most impressive baroque buildings in Poland when it was rebuilt in 1593. Unfortunately, the Prussians demolished it in 1914. It was rebuilt in 1925 to a design by Sylwester Pajzderski. The clock in the tower has a 3-metre diameter face.
Open to tourists:
The Kalisz Town Hall Tower is open to visitors from May until the end of October every year. A fascinating exhibition illustrating the history of the city takes up several floors inside.

Monday – 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday to Friday – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Tours are conducted by PTTK guides. Groups may consist of between 10 and 40 people. Individual tourists are shown around during normal hours, viz. from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
