A tour, or rather a walk around Poznań, during which you will get acquainted with the city"s history, see how it developed over the centuries and visit its most precious sights.
The walk starts at Ostrów Tumski - the Cathedral Island, where the story of Poznań and Poland began. First, let"s stop by the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Summo (on the grade).
Let"s now move on to the Cathedral. In spring and summer we can get inside the church using the main entrance, while in winter the side entrance on the south (right) side of the church is used. In order to visit the vault, visitors need to purchase a ticket in the vestry.
The "Genius Loci" Archaeological Reserve located at 3 Posadzego Street is also worth visiting; you can get there walking along the Lubrański Street. One may admire here the preserved remains of the embankments of the town of Mieszko I built in the 10th century, dating back to the times of the formation of the Piast state.
Let"s now move to the Old Town. On foot it is best to go across the Chrobry Bridge and then along the Chwaliszewo Street.
We will start from visiting the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Consolation by the crossroad of the Dominikańska and Szewska Streets.
Next let"s go to the Żydowska Street, where at its intersection with the Kramarska Street a little Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus is located.
Let"s now go to the Old Market Square. We will continue sightseeing standing by the Town Hall.
To the left, please pay attention to the pillory - a stone column topped with a statue of an armed figure.
From the pillory let"s now move to the parish Church of St. Stanislaus the Bishop. We will get there along the Świętosławska Street.
Now we will take a walk to the Hill of Przemysł. The best way to get there is to go along the Franciszkańska Street. On the Hill we may admire the Franciscan Church of St. Anthony of Padua and the reconstructed Royal Castle
When visiting this place it is also worth to see the Model of the Old Poznań, the entrance to which is located at the Ludgardy Street.

This is where the story of a medieval city ends. When Poznań came under the Prussian rule, the medieval city walls were demolished, and the city grew westward. But that is an entirely different story.
