The Bernardines came to Koźmin in 1628. A wooden church first occupied the site where the monastery stands today. Construction began on a brick church in 1648. The monastery building commenced a little later and was completed sometime during the first half of the 18th century. The monastery was closed down by the Prussian authorities in 1818. The monastery buildings were converted into a prison and the church served as a parish church from 1925, after initially being an ancillary building thereof. During WWII, the church was converted into a storeroom and a women’s prison was established in the former monastery. The former monastery now houses the State Youth Correctional Centre.
The baroque St. Stanislaus of Szczepanów Church is a single-nave construction with a rather narrow, closed triangular presbytery. Barrel vaults with lunettes cover the interior. The major furnishings – valuable baroque and rococo pieces from the late 17th and early 18th centuries – have been preserved. Apart from the altar, the rich, carved, rococo pulpit from 1725 is especially noteworthy.
The multi-storey monastery building joins the church from the north. Its three wings, together with the church, enclose a rectangular patio. To the south a gate tower built in the first half of the 18th century leads to a cloistered courtyard with the Way of the Cross.
