The church was built in the years 1430-1447 in the place of a former royal residence and a chapel constructed approx. in 965, founded by Dobrawa, the wife of Mieszko I. It was supposed to be a chancel of a larger church, which was never built for reasons unknown today. At the beginning of the 19th century the neglected church was in such a disastrous condition that there were plans to demolish it. An in-depth renovation of the church carried out between 1859 and 1862 prevented the demolition. The church is a three-nave hall construction, with an aisle around the three-sided apse of the chancel. The high roof is covered with ridge tiles. The top of the facade is decorated with lofty blind windows and pinnacles. The naves are covered with starry vaults, while the vaults of the chancel and the aisle form domes dating back to 1727. The polychrome of the interior and the projects of the stained glass windows and altar were made in the years 1954-1956 by Wacław Taranczewski.
