LESZNO
The county seat is located approx. 80 km south of Poznań, on the road to Wrocław.
The Leszno District Museum has its head office in two heritage tenement buildings. It has promoted the history and culture of the southern part of the region for more than 50 years. There are archaeological objects (including a sword from Osieczna ascribed to Przemysł II), artistic handicrafts, mementos of John Amos Comenius and the Unity of the Brethren, coffin portraits, images of figures associated with Leszno, Brotherhood of the Rooster memorabilia, ethnographic collections, regional medallions and a collection of Polish paintings with rural themes that numbers more than 1,000 exhibits.
There is a Judaic section in an erstwhile pre-funeral home on the grounds of what used to be a Jewish cemetery with religious and synagogue items and almost 400 tombstones from Jewish cemeteries in the region.
