KAZIMIERZ-BISKUPI
A county village located in Konin District (powiat), 10 km north-west of Konin, by the road to Kleczew.
A small Romanesque church which originally stood on this site – probably since as early as the beginning of 12th century – was thoroughly redeveloped ca. 1512, owing to Poznań Bishop Jan Lubrański. The Romanesque walls of the apse, presbytery and, partially, the nave, made of cut sandstone, were then made use of for the purpose. In the course of a reconstruction after the damage done to the temple by the Swedes in mid-17th century, it assumed a baroque character. The temple was enlarged in 1859, with a new façade added, among other things.
The church is a single-nave structure, with an apse-enclosed presbytery, next to which, at the north, is a sacristry as well as a small treasury. The interior is covered by a ceiling featuring murals showing scenes from the lives of the Five Martyr Brethren. The baroque main altar from the former half of 18th century, behind the vault is the benevolent icon of Our Lady with the Infant from 1st half pf 17th century, dressed in a silver frock from 1766. The reliques of the Five Martyr Brethren are placed in a side altar. There is also a stone fount made in 16th century.
Noticeable in the church’s outer wall are stones taken out of the former Romanesque temple, with mysterious sings carved in them.
