When the King Władysław Jagiełło granted the foundation charter for the Corpus Christi Church in Poznań, he became a frequent visitor to the place. One year he even came to celebrate Easter there. During the mass the monks wanted to visualize vividly the moment of the Resurrection of Christ and the casting of Satan into Hell. To do so, at the crunch they pulled the figure of Christ up to the ceiling, which was accompanied by a poignant sound of trumpets. The king was so scared of that part of the show that he ordered to light a candle to venerate the Christ arisen. When, after a while, the figure of Satan fell down with even greater thud, Jagiełło, equally terrified, ordered to light... two candles. The outraged monks started to protest violently, but the king simply said: "Serve the Lord, and do not annoy the Devil."
