The county seat is about 50 km north-east of Poznań.
The Gniezno Archdiocesan Museum was established by Card. Józef Glemp in 1991. The museum collections also encompass the cathedral treasury, which is one of the wealthiest in Poland after Cracow and Jasna Góra.
A 10th-century chalice of St. Wojciech and a chalice for Gniezno Cathedral funded by Mieszko the Old are among the most valuable exhibits. Also on display is a series of 15th-century reliquaries, sacred sculptures and liturgical fabrics.
Coffin portraits with castrum doloris (Latin: castle of grief) arrangements typical of baroque burial rites occupy a special place in the exhibition. The exhibition also has memorabilia of recent Primates of Poland.
