The Roundhouse in Wolsztyn
The first railway line from Wolsztyn to Zbąszyń was opened in 1886. The roundhouse was built 20 years later in 1907. At the beginning „the shed” could contain only 4 steam locomotives but later it was rebuilt and now it can store 8 of them. Today the Roundhouse in Wolsztyn is the last active roundhouse in Europe wchich send the locomotives on a regular basis to Poznań and Leszno. From 2003 The Roundhouse belongs to PKP CARGO S.A. co. In 2005 Wolsztyn created a fundation called „The Era of Steam Locomotives” whose main task is to protect the old hitoric locomotives. From 1993 also an annual parade of them is organized in the spring.
In the Roundhouse is located a museum who shows the trains wchich were present not so long time ago on the small railway stations.
