The Sieraków Landscape Park was set aside in 1991 and is situated in Międzychód County in the western part of Wielkopolska Voivodeship. It embraces an area of 304.1 sq. km. on the boundary of the Gorzów basin and the Poznań lake district.
The park protects a varied post-glacial landscape and a rich terrain of innumerable moraine hills, lacustrine channels, river valleys and dunes. The latitudinally flowing Warta has split it into a northern part typified by the dunes of the Noteć Wilderness and a southern morainal part with covered hillocks and lakes in deep channels. More than 33% of the park is forested. A vast pine forest monoculture grows on the dunes in the northern part while beech and mixed forests prevail in the south. The park has a highly diverse range of wildlife. Black storks, grey herons, cranes and many protected species of predatory bird live here in addition to typical forest animals like wild boar, red deer, roe deer and fallow deer. Wolves occasionally make an appearance in the forests in the northern part. The numerous post-glacial lakes make the park even more seductive. Lake Chrzypsko is the largest, measuring 304 ha, while Lake Śrem is the deepest at 45 m. As its bottom is 6 m bsl, Lake Śrem also attracts attention by virtue of being Wielkopolska’s only cryptodepression. The Czaple Wyspy (Island Herons), Cegliniec, Mszar nad jez. Mnich (Morass on Lake Mnich) and Buki nad Jez. Lutomskim (Beech on Lake Lutom) reserves protect naturally valuable areas.
The park has two scenic outlooks with parking. The first is on Góra Głazów (Mountain of Boulders) near Upartowo on the road from Kwilcz to Sieraków and looks out over the park while a line of Noteć Wilderness forests stretch away to the horizon. The other is in Łężeczki on the road from Pniewy to Chrzypsko Wielkie and offers a stunning view of Lake Chrzypsko. The latter has an added attraction in the form of a monument to the boletus, a genus of mushroom.
The Natural Education Centre in Chalin is run by the Wielkopolska Voivodeship Landscape Parks provides natural education for children and young adults, runs training programs and hosts conferences. The three educational paths around the centre make it easy to come to grips with nature.
