KŁODAWA

Kłodawa is a small town situated in the Koło district (powiat), ca. 20 north-east of Koło, by the road to Warsaw.

A wooden town hall stood in the marketplaces’ central part in as early as 15th century. In 1585, a new, also wooden, building replaced the former one. 1820 saw construction of a brick building that has stayed there till this day. Material from a demolished Romanesque St. Giles’s church was used in its construction. During a thorough renovation work carried out in 1989/1990, the building’s interiors were rebuilt.

The town hall, classical in its style, is erected at the south-eastern corner of Wolności Sqare, at the outlet of Warszawska Street. A two-storey building, it is founded on a square-like projection. A passage vestibule is set along the edifice’s axis. The building has got a tile-covered hip roof. The façade contains a portico whose four columns bear a tiny balcony with a balustered banister. A pseudo-projection set through the two storeys is crowned with a staircase-shaped top featuring the town’s emblem.

A police station is housed in the building today.
