6 Nov 1806 The successful Wielkopolska Uprising of 1806 begins when Gen. Jan Henryk Dąbrowski and Gen. Józef Wybicki make their triumphant entry into Poznań.
27 Nov 1806 French emperor Napoleon comes to Poznań for the first time (he later stays here in 1807 and twice in 1812).
7 Jul 1807 The Duchy of Warsaw, whose territory includes Wielkopolska, is established under the terms of the Treaties of Tilsit signed by Napoleon and Tsar Alexander I.
16 Apr 1809 The next successful Wielkopolska Uprising erupts during the Polish Austrian War.
17 Feb 1813 Tsar Alexander I of Russia comes to Kalisz with an army, field marshals, generals, envoys of various states, and diplomats. Prussian King Frederick William III soon arrives as well. The outcome of the campaigns against Napoleon and the future order of Europe are decided at the conferences, understandings and treaties between Prussia and Russia at the congress of monarchs in Kalisz. The Tsar remains in Kalisz for six weeks and stays again on 10 November.
3 May 1815 The Congress of Vienna grants the western and northern parts of Wielkopolska to Prussia as the newly created Grand Duchy of Poznań and the eastern portion to Russia as the Kingdom of Poland. The former includes Poznań, Leszno and Gniezno, and the latter Kalisz. Antoni Radziwiłł is appointed Governor of Wielkopolska.
20 Mar 1848 The National Committee of Poland is formed in Poznań to organise the next armed uprising, which is named the “Wielkopolska Revolution of 1848”.
26 Apr 1886 The Prussian authorities announce a statute establishing the Prussian Settlement Commission charged with purchasing land from Poles and selling it to Germans at preferential rates.
1894 The anti-Polish German Eastern Marches Society – commonly known as Hakata – is established 28 September.
1914 WWI breaks out on 28 July. The Prussians occupy Kalisz 7-8 August and the German army destroys the city in an act of barbarism.
27 Dec 1918 The Wielkopolska Uprising begins with a battle against the German army in the afternoon.
