Outsiders most often think of Poznań as the city of trade fairs. Nor is anybody surprised to see hordes of visitors arriving for the latest exbibition at the Poznań International Fair. Few, however, remember this event as it was during our grandparents’ day when attendance was considered a patriotic duty. The General National Exhibition was held to show what the independent-fatherland had achieved during its first 10 years of independence- The PeWuKa (P-W-K), to use its Polish acronym, broke several records which still stand 80 years later. This makes it the longest lasting event in the country. It was held on the largest exhibition area and attracted 4 million visitors.
