This picturesque county seat in the Gwda valley lies on the river Gwda, 11 km upstream from where it runs into the Noteć.
St. Anthony of Padua Church
The temple was built to a design by Hans Herkommer in 1929-1930. The church was consecrated by Prelate Kaller on 15 June 1930. The church came under the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) at the end of WWII.
Inside, the church is like an ancient Christian catacomb. The Way of the Cross on the north wall was painted by Willy Oeser. The 7.5-metre cross – the largest in Europe – hanging above the high altar is the largest fixture in the church. This is the work of B. Muller-Oerlinghausen, who was inspired by the Oberammergau Passion Play. The crucifix is made of wood with brass flakes. The sculpture represents Christ the Victor with a dignified expression on his face and a royal crown on his temples.
