STARY-GOSTYŃ
A village in Gostyń district (powiat), 5 km north-west of Gostyń.
The local mononave church, with a lower and narrower rectangular presbytery, was built circa 1300. In 1910–1912, it was redeveloped using the design by Roger Sławski, its nave being elongated and the sacristry enlarged. The presbytery has preserved the original quadripartite rib vault, the ribs being pear-profiled. The outfit is mainly baroque, dating to 18th century. An icon of Our Lady with the Infant of 1645, adorned with silver frock (early 18th c.), is the main altar’s central feature. A unique element of the equipment is twelve wooden statues of the Apostles near the loft balustrade and another twelve ones of Polish saints, made in the interwar period (before 1935) by Andrzej Majchrzak, a folk sculptor.
