A county town situated on the Wełna river, in the area of Chodzieskie (Chodzież) Lake District, ca. 55 km north-east of Poznań.
The home to the Museum is the so-called Opatówka, i.e. an eighteenth-century residence of the local Cistercians’ abbot (the Polish for abbot being ‘opat’).
The Museum has in its collection exhibits picturing the town’s and the region’s history and traditions. These include guild-related documents, diverse ethnographic collections and artistic works. Special attention is deserved by a completely equipped Pałuki fisherman’s workshop – a donation from a Wągrowiec local. A local event called the Wągrowiec Cistercian Fetes is held on the Museum’s initiative.
