The county seat lies approx. 50 km north-east of Poznań and is an important point on the Piast Trail.

The southern tower of the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Gniezno Cathedral) has a viewing terrace as an additional tourist attraction. The 55-metre scenic outlook is on Wzgórze Lecha (Lech Hill), along with the city’s Old Town and most important heritage.
